Organizing

Poetry moves me in ways I didn’t know were possible. It invents new colors and finds beauty in the most unremarkable moments like trying on my grandpa’s favorite windbreaker or spreading almond butter on wheat toast. Brilliant language leaves me astonished over and over again, my heart filled. I think this is why it’s important to root poetry in organizing work. Poetry has the incredible power to change hearts and minds. It can shift culture, and as we reimagine a new world through art, we must also participate in ensuring it becomes a reality. We must organize.

Art is not a mirror held up to reality, but a hammer with which to shape it.
